Umno likely to hold polls after GE16, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno elections will likely be held after the 16th General Election, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said the party constitution had been amended to this effect.

"We will wait after the general election. We have 18 months as we have amended the constitution to allow the party polls to be held after.

"It depends which comes first," he said when met at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly here on Friday (Jan 16).

In 2022, Umno approved amendments to the party constitution to allow internal polls to be delayed until six months after a general election in coinciding years.
