MELAKA: Bersatu is open to working with any political party that provides space for negotiations ahead of the upcoming Melaka state election, says Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
The Bersatu information chief told Sinar Harian that any potential collaboration must adhere to party principles and prioritize the interests of the state and its people.
"As stated by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, we are open to working with any party that opens the door to negotiations, provided we do not compromise our principles," Tun Faisal said after attending a closed-door pre-state election dinner at a hotel on Monday (Sept 28).
He clarified that the meeting was not a formal political negotiation, but rather an informal networking session to exchange views on political developments and share insights from other states.
"There were no formal negotiations," he said, noting that he attended the event following an invitation from Melaka political leaders.
"It was a good platform to exchange thoughts, discuss past experiences in other states and share ideas on moving forward."
Tun Faisal added that formal seat negotiations rested with top party leadership, but affirmed that Bersatu would welcome talks with any interested coalition, including Barisan Nasional.
He noted that parties under the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) umbrella were currently the ones keeping channels open for cooperation.
He added that the gathering provided valuable insights into Melaka's political landscape to help the party formulate its election strategy.
