Duo crushed to death by 10-tonne lorry while attempting brake repair


KUCHING: Two men were killed after they were crushed by a 10-tonne lorry while attempting to repair the vehicle’s brakes along Jalan Mambong, Siburan, on Friday (Jan 16).

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, a distress call regarding the incident was received at 2pm.

"The incident occurred when the two victims (the lorry driver and attendant) were repairing the lorry’s brakes at a quarry road before being crushed and trapped underneath the vehicle.

"Rescue operations to extricate the trapped victims were successfully carried out using two excavators belonging to the quarry company, with the first victim removed at 4.55pm and the second at 5.04pm,” it said.

The bodies of the victims, aged 46 and 26, were handed over to the police for further action. – Bernama
