Two students still receiving treatment after HELP University explosion


KUALA LUMPUR: Two HELP University students who were injured in the air conditioning gas explosion at the university's Bukit Damansara campus here are still receiving treatment at the hospital, while two others have been discharged.

In a statement on Thursday (Jan 15), HELP University said the six individuals who were also injured in the incident have also been discharged from the hospital.

"The university authorities remain in close contact with its students, staff, and families involved and will continue to provide all necessary forms of support throughout their recovery period," according to the statement.

Additionally, HELP University welcomes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for a swift and comprehensive investigation into the incident.

The university also said it is ready to continue working closely with the authorities, building owners, and building management companies to identify the facts of the incident and ensure that all safety protocols are properly reviewed.

"We appreciate the support as well as care shown to all parties involved and are grateful to the students, family members and colleagues, both locally and internationally, who have offered support and words of encouragement to the families of the four students injured in the incident," said the statement.

On Wednesday, in an X post, Anwar called for an immediate and comprehensive investigation to be conducted to identify the cause of the air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University that occurred on Monday.

Following the incident at around 11.40am, the media reported that one man died and nine others were injured in an air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University.

The deceased victim was identified as Soo Yu Juan, 24, a third-year mechanical engineering student at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). - Bernama
