PERKESO ready to help university blast victims, says Ramanan

PUTRAJAYA: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is ready to assist victims of the recent explosion at HELP University, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

According to Ramanan, while the Federal Territories Ministry and the Higher Education Ministry are currently assisting victims, PERKESO and the Human Resources Ministry will also provide additional support.

“I understand that one individual sustained severe injuries and the person is in critical condition in the hospital. Let’s pray for the person.

“But, in terms of help, let the Higher Education Ministry handle this because this is under their purview. But, don’t worry, we are providing the needed support from time to time,” said Ramanan to reporters after his New Year address at Menara PERKESO on Thursday (Jan 15).

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a ruptured air-conditioning compressor, occurred on Monday at the university’s Bukit Damansara campus.

An external contractor was killed in the incident, while nine others — including four students — were injured.

Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Soo Yu Juan, a third-year mechanical engineering student who was scheduled to complete his industrial training this week.
