Woman, 64, killed in Sibu four-vehicle crash

SIBU: A 64-year-old woman died, while a 74-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a four-vehicle collision near the Kemuyang traffic lights on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman on Wednesday (January 14).

The deceased has been identified as Kamariah Dupap, who passed away at the hospital while receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia Sibu Zone head Andy Alie said his department received an emergency call from the public at 11:38am.

A team from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, about 19km from the station.

“The accident involved two four-wheel-drive vehicles and two cars. Upon arrival, we found two victims trapped inside a car — a man with serious injuries and a woman who was unconscious,” he said.

He added that the firemen used specialised rescue equipment to extricate the trapped victims before they were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The elderly man remains under medical care.

Six other people from the remaining three vehicles were also injured and were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
