Dr Akmal to make announcement on status tomorrow, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh will make an announcement on his status Wednesday (Jan 14), says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We met earlier and I have given him my advice. He will make an announcement tomorrow (Jan 14),” he said briefly when met by reporters after attending the Umno Patriotic School convocation programme held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Tuesday (Jan 13).

Dr Muhamad Akmal previously hinted at stepping aside from his post as Umno Youth chief after his call for Umno to withdraw from the unity government drew a negative reaction from the Umno president.

On Monday (Jan 12), Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said he will abide by the decisions made by Umno president and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh regarding the positions he currently holds.

Dr Muhamad Akmal is also an exco member of the Melaka state government and Merlimau elected assemblyman.

Separately, Ahmad Zahid said Umno will arrange a cooperation strategy on working with Bersatu, only if the situation requires it.

“The appropriate strategy will be drafted, if and only if, it is needed,” he said when responding to a question on the possible cooperation between the two Malay-based parties.
