Sarawak government provides assistance to flood victims in Sibu Division

SIBU: The Sarawak government activated three temporary evacuation centres in the Sibu Division to shelter residents affected by recent flooding.

Sibu Division Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, on Monday (Jan 12) said, "Each household relocated to a PPS is eligible to receive Bantuan Wang Ihsan amounting to RM1,000.”

In addition, flood victims are receiving food baskets from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and three daily meals facilitated by the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) also contributed RM350 food vouchers and donated used clothing.

Currently, 252 individuals from 63 households are sheltering at SK Bukit Arip, SMK Bukit Assek, and Dewan Masyarakat Jeriah. SK Bukit Arip has the highest number of evacuees, with 238 people from 61 households.

While Dewan Masyarakat Jeriah previously accommodated two households, it is expected to close on Monday pending safety assessments.
