PETALING JAYA: A member of the Armed Forces has been detained for possession of a gun, ammunition and also some ketum water.
Cheras deputy OCPD Supt Lim Chun How said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.
"The suspect was initially remanded for five days until Oct 3. It has been extended for another five days until Oct 8," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3).
Supt Lim said police received a report regarding an incident at the Sungai Besi Army camp car park in Kuala Lumpur.
A team from the Cheras police headquarters' crime prevention and community safety department arrested the civil servant.
Police also seized a pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition and liquid suspected to be ketum.
In an earlier statement, the Armed Forces confirmed that all firearms and ammunition in its storage facilities were accounted for.
It said an immediate inspection was carried out on all arms and ammunition stores after receiving information about the case.
The Armed Forces also said the officer was arrested by police on Sept 28 at a public institution of higher learning.
The suspect also tested positive for mitragynine, a compound found in ketum. However, this is subject to further laboratory confirmation.
The suspect also has a record of three crimes, including two drug-related cases.
