Mentally ill man allegedly bludgeons brother to death

MARANG: A man died after he was believed to have been bludgeoned with a hammer by his mentally ill younger brother in an incident at Kampung Tasek, near here, on Saturday (Oct 3).

The victim, Mohd Nasir Ismail, 43, the eldest of nine siblings, succumbed to severe head injuries in the attack.

The victim's mother, Hasnah Sulong, 63, who was still in shock over the tragedy, said she was in the living room when she heard screams and the sounds of a struggle from another part of the house.

"I immediately called my husband, Ismail Ibrahim, 80, who was outside the house.

"When he came inside, he saw Nasir covered in blood with severe head injuries," she said when met at her residence in Kampung Tasek on Saturday.

Hasnah said her second child, Affendi, 42, who has a history of mental health issues, is suspected to be involved in the incident.

She added that another child, Rurazmiza, 36, sustained back injuries after being struck with the hammer while trying to stop the fight.

"Rurazmiza tried to step in to break up the fight, but she was also injured when struck," she said.

Hasnah, a stroke survivor, said the tragedy brought back painful memories of an incident 12 years ago when her husband was stabbed by the same son.

However, that incident did not prevent the family from continuing to care for and live with him.

Marang OCPD Supt Saari Mohamed confirmed the incident when contacted. — Bernama
