Facing justice: The accused being taken to the Seremban Sessions Court to be charged.
SEREMBAN: Six men, including three brothers, claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to charges of using machetes to cause grievous hurt to three individuals outside a food court in Port Dickson.
The siblings – A. Yogentheren, 30, Kugentheran, 25, and Sinielkumar, 23 – were charged along with S. Sathia Moorthy, 28, K. Muniswaran, 20, and A. Shelan, 26.
They pleaded not guilty after the three charges were read to them before judge N. Kanageswari.
The six were jointly accused of causing serious injury to V. Vithyathran, 36, M. Tamilarasan, 31, and M. Gobu, 43, around 8.05pm on Dec 27 outside a food court in Taman Aman, Lukut.
They were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same legislation.
Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and whipped or fined upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor M. Pusppa asked the court for a next mention date as the medical and CCTV forensic reports were not ready.
She told the court the prosecution was offering each of the accused RM10,000 bail for each of the three offences.
Lawyer Paul Krishnarajah then pleaded for a lower amount as the suspects did not earn much.
He said Muniswaran and Kugentheran were lorry attendants, Shelan a technician, Yogentheren a farmer, Sathia an odd job worker while Sinielkumar was a labourer. Krishnarajah, who was assisted by Kartikeyan Supramaniam, said all six accused were also due to be charged at the Port Dickson Magistrate’s Court later for alleged offences related to the same incident.
He then proposed a sum of RM6,000 for each of the accused.
Judge Kanageswari set bail at RM8,000 for each of the accused for all three charges. The court fixed March 11 for next mention.
