Several Perak Bersatu division chiefs called up by party's disciplinary board

IPOH: Several Perak Beratu division chiefs, who previously appeared at a press conference calling on party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign on Dec 10, 2025, have confirmed receiving letters from Bersatu’s disciplinary board, Sinar Harian reports.

Teluk Intan Bersatu chief Kamaruddin Majid confirmed that he is among those who received the letter, in PDF format, delivered via WhatsApp on Friday (Jan 9), the Malay language daily reported.

He said the letter, signed by Bersatu disciplinary board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, instructed him to attend a meeting with the party’s disciplinary board committee on Jan 14 at Bersatu headquarters.

“I had expected to receive this letter like the other division chiefs. Therefore, this action is nothing out of the ordinary, and I see it as an attempt to silence grassroots leaders from voicing criticism of the leadership.

“However, I am grateful because this action indirectly opens everyone’s eyes, especially the public, to the fact that the party’s internal issues appear to be prioritised over efforts to help the people,” he told Sinar Harian on Friday.

Kamaruddin said he accepts whatever action may be taken, including suspension or expulsion.

He described disciplinary action against grassroots-level party leaders as something that would only be detrimental and a waste of the party’s resources.

It is understood that, besides Kamaruddin, several other Bersatu division chiefs, including those from Larut, Gopeng, Padang Rengas, Tapah and Pasir Salak, had also received the same letter.

Meanwhile, Teluk Intan Bersatu youth wing (Armada) chief Muhammad Munawar Biran stressed that the wing stands firmly in support of Kamaruddin.

He said the stance previously voiced together with other division leaders was not a disciplinary breach, but rather a moral and political responsibility to save the party from a prolonged internal crisis.

“This raises a legitimate question among party members and grassroots supporters: since when has stating the truth and offering views for the good of the party become a reason to be summoned before the disciplinary board?

“I do not dispute the existence or role of the disciplinary board, but power must not be used to suppress or intimidate internal voices that speak with the intention of improving, not damaging, the party,” he said in a statement.

He added that Bersatu will not collapse because of the courage to speak the truth; rather, the party could collapse if the truth is treated as a threat to the leadership.

On Dec 10, media reports stated that 14 of Bersatu’s 24 division chiefs in Perak jointly called for Muhyiddin to step down as president for the sake of the party’s future.

The call was voiced by Pasir Salak Bersatu chief Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, who acted as spokesperson for the group.
