Kinabatangan, Lamag by-elections: Sabah BN committed to political stability, continued development, says Jafry

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan is committed to bringing political stability, continued development and more prosperity for the people, says Datuk Jafry Arifin.

The Sabah Barisan chief said with their Kinabatangan and Lamag candidates selected after thorough deliberation, their focus for the next 14 days of campaigning will be on fact-based approaches while allowing voters to interact directly with them.

“We have presented two capable candidates who are ready to serve - Mohd Naim Kurniawan for Kinabatangan and Mohd Ismail Ayob for Lamag,” he said in a statement after nominations closed.

Jafry said they will take the next two weeks to let the people understand the party’s vision and mission as well as development plans for the state.

He said the selection of these two candidates were made based on local acceptance, leadership ability and their capability to serve the people with consistency and quality, a proof of commitment to ensure political stability and continued prosperity for the people.

He said Mohd Naim brought a youthful energy that was progressive and close to the aspirations of the people while Mohd Ismail or Miha, as the activist is known, is an experienced leader that understood the needs of Lamag.

“I urge all election machinery as well as the people in Kinabatangan and Lamag to give their full support to both our candidates for the continuity of development, political stability and a better future,” said Jafry.

Earlier, the Election Commission announced that it received a total of three nomination papers for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and two nomination papers for the Lamag state seat.

Returning officer Eddy Syaizul Rizam Abdullah said for Kinabatangan, the candidates comprised Naim Kurniawan, Warisan's Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and Independent, Goldam Hamid.

It announced that for Lamag, the candidates were Mohd Ismail and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek Chua.
