Influencer claims trial to assault on disabled person

PETALING JAYA: A social media influencer pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of hitting a fast food restaurant worker.

Nalinee Kothandabani (pic), 41, who works as a IT engineer, was accused of intentionally causing hurt to Rani Arumugam, 45, by hitting the victim, who is also a disabled person, at the restaurant in Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan.

The offence was allegedly committed at 4pm on Dec 8 last year.

The charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries up to one year imprisonment, or a fine or both, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Syed Ahmed Khabir Abdul Rahman offered bail at RM5,000 in one surety.

However, Nalinee’s lawyer Dinesh Muthal sought RM500 bail on the grounds that his client is the sole breadwinner of her family.

“My client lives in Johor Baru and she has given her cooperation to the police during the investigation.

“She came to court herself to face the charges today,” Dinesh said.

Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal fixed bail at RM2,000 in one surety and set March 17 for mention.

On Dec 18, it was reported that the police had called in a female suspect to assist in the investigation into an assault of a disabled woman at a fast food restaurant in Serdang Jaya.

The assault was said to be linked to a dissatisfaction over business-related matters on TikTok.
