PETALING JAYA: The end of the holiday break saw long queues of vehicles crawling along major highways yesterday, as families returned home after spending the festive season with loved ones outside the Klang Valley.

Some photos shared on social media showed that the congestion was worsened by several accidents along the highways.

They also included vehicles veering off the road, which led to emergency lanes being blocked, further slowing down the traffic.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) on its social media page said that at 6.46pm, traffic was reported to be heavy and slow-moving on multiple stretches of major highways.

LLM also shared a traffic video footage showing vehicles heading west at the Gombak toll plaza was the slowest compared to other highways.

Meanwhile, along the Elite Highway near Bandar Saujana Putra, both directions were slow but manageable.

The North-South Expressway near Port Dickson also showed heavy congestion, particularly vehicles heading towards the north, while vehicles heading south were moving faster.

The update from LLM also showed that vehicles heading towards the North-South Expressway at R&R Tapah were moving steadily in the evening.

Highway users also expressed their frustration on social media.

Abdul Rahman YA, who was at R&R Gombak, said he travelled from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur, leaving at 2.15pm and only arriving at Gombak at 7.30pm.

“It was a slow-moving traffic from LPT (East Coast Expressway) towards KL city centre. I will be working tomorrow as the holiday season ends,” he said while showing a video of the traffic yesterday.

Noorul Aida posted on her social media page at around 5pm that she was caught in the slow-moving traffic when travelling from Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

Heading towards Kuala Lumpur, she hoped the traffic would ease.
