KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s success in the tourism sector is due to the country’s harmony among all races, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister stressed that Malaysians must take pride in the diverse cultures across the country and to always defend it.

“We can see diverse cultures all the way from Perlis to Sabah and Sarawak and we must defend this.

“We are proud Malaysians. This refers to the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Sarawakians and Sabahans.

“We are a great nation,” Anwar said in his speech at the launch of the “I Lite U” project here on Saturday (Jan 3).

"I Lite U" is an acronym for the Innovative Lighting Infrastructure Towards Eco-elegance Urbanisation project.

The project features light-emitting diode (LED) designs themed around chandeliers, moon lights and fairytale concepts, utilising energy-efficient technology with the installation of more than 70 LED lights.

It involves a main route stretching nearly one kilometre around Bukit Bintang and aims to enliven the city’s night-time atmosphere with captivating lighting displays, while highlighting the beauty of the urban landscape through the use of modern and sustainable technology in line with the low-carbon city agenda.

The project is also set to transform the city’s most iconic strip into a brighter, safer and more festive destination, reinforcing Kuala Lumpur’s readiness for Visit Malaysia 2026.

Also present were Cabinet ministers, including Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh as well as senior government officials.
