Man hurt in escape from burning house


KOTA KINABALU: A man suffered burns on his shoulder while escaping from his house, which was destroyed in a late-night fire, at Sungai Batu Lunguyan in Sabah's interior Sook district on Sunday (Dec 28).

Passers-by took the 46-year-old victim to the Tulid clinic in Sook for treatment.

Sook fire station chief Faisal Ahmad said the blaze involved a semi-permanent house that was destroyed along with a car and two motorcycles.

He said they received a distress call at 8.54pm and a team rushed to the area, over 30km from the station, arriving there at 9.30pm.

"The fire was brought under control at 9.45pm," he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 29).

He said Sabah Electricity and the police also assisted in the operation, which ended shortly before midnight.

The cause of the fire and the total losses sustained were still under investigation, he added.
