KOTA KINABALU: Santa sent his reindeer early to deliver gifts to an elderly stroke victim in Kg Keliangau, Sepanggar, who now struggles to speak, move and especially walk.
This man, affectionately known as Uncle Davies, in his 60s, also suffers from poor eyesight. Following a stroke a couple of years ago, he often has to crawl or lean against the wall to move about.
His situation came to the attention of Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who promptly arranged for a wheelchair to be sent to him as a Christmas gift.
“When we see Uncle Davies’ condition, it truly tugs at the heartstrings. In his golden years, he is unable to walk and often forced to crawl to manage his daily activities,” he said.
“Upon learning about his condition, we made it a priority to visit him and present him with an early Christmas gift to make it easier for him to move around,” he added.
Mustapha expressed hope that this gift would improve Uncle Davies’ daily life and assured the people of Sepanggar that he would do his best to address their needs, step by step.
When Uncle Davies received the wheelchair on Monday (Dec 22), he was overjoyed and cried out in gratitude.
“Who is that outside? Who is that?” he asked when he noticed people gathered outside his dilapidated home.
“This is a Christmas gift from you, from the Parliament of Sepanggar,” said the representatives who were there to present the wheelchair to him.
“Oh, thank you, thank you for giving me this wheelchair,” Uncle Davies exclaimed, immediately sitting in it and trying to move around.
His arms were strong enough to propel the wheelchair, though at times he had to exert extra effort to get the wheels moving.
His younger sister, who requested to remain anonymous, expressed her gratitude to Mustapha and his team for bringing the wheelchair to Uncle Davies.
