PUTRAJAYA: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra here on Monday (June 22), on his first foreign visit since taking office in February.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received his counterpart at 9am, after which the national anthems of both countries were played.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and members of the Cabinet.
Tarique then inspected a guard of honour made up of 103 personnel and three officers from the First Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, led by Major Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the progress of Malaysia-Bangladesh bilateral ties and explore further cooperation in key sectors, including trade and investment, manpower management, semiconductors, energy, agriculture and education. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Anwar and Tarique are set to witness the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cultural cooperation, along with two Exchange of Notes (EoN) covering counter-terrorism research and investment promotion and facilitation.
Total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM12.18bil (US$2.84bil) in 2025.
Malaysia's exports to Bangladesh stood at RM10.08bil (US$2.35bil), led by petroleum products, while imports from Bangladesh came to RM2.1bil (US$0.50bil), made up largely of textiles, apparel and footwear.
Bangladesh is Malaysia's 28th largest trading partner. It is also Malaysia's second largest trading partner, export destination and import source in South Asia, after India.
