PETALING JAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has launched a probe into individuals identified in the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji.
“The investigation is done based on a tax risk analysis, whereby there was a mismatch between asset ownership and the total revenue reported by the respective individuals,” LHDN said in a statement on Friday (Aug 7).
It said LHDN had raided several premises to gather information, check documents and to verify facts related to the ongoing investigation.
“Every action taken was carried out in a professional manner based on integrity and in accordance with tax laws without any prejudice towards any party," LHDN said.
Any further action will only be decided after the investigation is completed, it added.

The RCI report into Tabung Haji (TH) recommended a forensic audit into past investment decisions that led to a severe deterioration in TH’s asset value.
The report, which investigated TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020, identified several problematic investments that warrant forensic examination.
The commission also found evidence of suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.
