Woman-in-bag murder: Negri cops identify victim

SEREMBAN: The highly decomposed human remains found stuffed in a bag and buried behind an unoccupied house in Rembau near here belonged to 53-year-old Suri Narudin, who was reported missing in Ampang, Selangor, on Dec 15.

State police chief, Dept Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, said a set of fingerprints sent for examination by the Bukit Aman federal police matched those of the deceased in the National Registration Department database.

"The police had one set of fingerprints for examination and comparison, and upon checking with the NRD, it has been confirmed that the fingerprints belonged to Suri Narudin, who had been reported missing," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 23).

DCP Alzafny said police have also received the deceased's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) analysis report from the Chemistry Department, and the results revealed that it had a close match to her biological siblings.

"A comparison of DNA profiles found that the specimen analysed showed a close family relationship with her biological siblings and a very high probability of relationship, thus further strengthening the process of confirming the identity of the deceased," he said.

On Dec 19, the police said doctors were unable to establish the cause of the victim's death as her remains were too decomposed.

It was reported that the victim had been unreachable since Dec 8.

Police then detained two suspects to assist with the investigation.

The first suspect, a 41-year-old man, was detained in Melaka on Dec 18, and the second, a 51-year-old man who is also believed to be the main suspect, was detained around Genting Sempah, Pahang, the following day.

The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Monday (Dec 22), state deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said police believe a dispute over money led to the woman's murder.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim and the main suspect got into an argument after she allegedly asked him for money, and this ended with him strangling her.
