Asri appointed Energy Commission chairman


PUTRAJAYA: The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry on Friday (Dec 19) announced the appointment of Datuk Seri Asri  Hamidin @ Hamidon as the chairman of the Energy Commission for a period of one year, effective Jan 1, 2026.

In a statement today, the ministry announced that the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions under Section 5 of the Energy Commission Act 2001 (Act 610) with the approval of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Minister responsible for matters relating to gas supply.

"The ministry expresses its appreciation and gratitude to the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar for his dedicated service as the chairman of the Energy Commission," it added.

Asri, 59, is a Master of Economics graduate from Hiroshima University, Japan and holds a Master of Economics from Universiti Malaya.

He has served in the public service for 31 years, starting as assistant director at the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department. - Bernama
