PETALING JAYA: The prices of several Rapid KL travel passes will be adjusted effective Jan 1 next year.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd stakeholder experience management and group marketing department acting head P. Ashok said the adjustment was in line with the development of the public transport network and the need to ensure more stable and sustainable services in the long term.
“These adjustments are made based on a comprehensive study of usage patterns, service network expansion and current operating costs.
“Despite the price adjustments, the Rapid KL travel pass continues to offer the best value to everyday users through consistent savings, unlimited travel convenience and an ever-enhanced mobility experience,” he said in a statement issued on Tuesday (Dec 16).
Ashok said the move was in line with the transformation of the Rapid KL rail and bus network, which was now more comprehensive compared to a decade ago.
These, he said, included the opening of the Kajang Line in 2016 and the Putrajaya Line in 2022, plus additional bus routes that expanded the area of coverage and increased service frequency.
"This adjustment is the first since 2009, taking into account the increasing operating and maintenance costs from year to year, in addition to Prasarana's continuous commitment to ensuring that safety standards and service reliability are always at the best level," he added.
As for the new pricing, the daily Rapid Kota pass for Malaysians will cost RM10, while a three-day pass costs RM25.
A Rapid Kembara day pass for tourists will cost RM25 while a three-day pass costs RM55.
As for the Rapid Keluarga pass, which is also only for Malaysians, the pass costs RM30.
For the Rapid Pelajar pass, a concession discount card will only be for Malaysian students, with new applications to open on Jan 1 next year.
As for foreign students with existing passes, they will be eligible for a 50% discount until the expiry of the pass or on Dec 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
Ashok said it would also introduce Rapid Bulanan, a 30-day pass that offers unlimited travel across Rapid KL rail and bus services.
"The price is set at RM150 for Malaysians and non-Malaysians," he said.
"As for the My50, Rapid Emas and Rapid Mesra concession cards, the prices will remain, in line with its ongoing commitment to ensure affordable and inclusive public transport, especially for those in need," he added.
