NIBONG TEBAL: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation submitted by activitist Arun Dorasamy in connection with a charge of making a statement intended to cause public alarm via social media last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Airina Syazreen Zainurin informed the Jawi Magistrate's Court of this during proceedings before Magistrate Balqis Roslin here on Friday (Oct 16).
The court then fixed Feb 1 for the trial, with the prosecution set to call seven witnesses.
On March 17, Arun – whose real name is Arumugam Dorasamy – claimed trial to a charge of posting a statement on his Instagram account that could incite public disorder.

The offence was allegedly committed at a shopping centre in Batu Kawan, South Seberang Perai, at 3.45pm on March 12 last year.
The statement reportedly called on a Hindu organisation, Pertubuhan Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia, to stage a street protest if no action was taken against independent preacher Zamri Vinoth over a controversial video involving three local radio presenters accused of mocking a religious festival.
He was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both upon conviction. – Bernama
