SENTUHAN Wira, a film commemorating Malaysia’s historic 1992 Thomas Cup triumph, has announced its cast, major Chinese dailies reported.
Kim Azzim will portray Datuk Abdul Rashid Mohd Sidek, the then No. 1 singles player, while Hon Kahoe takes on the role of second seed Datuk Foo Kok Keong and S. Jay will play Kwan Yoke Meng.
The cast also includes Sam Liew as Datuk Cheah Soon Kit, Liang Chia as Soo Beng Kiang, Ahmad Syafiq Khairul Anuar as Datuk Mohamed Razif Mohd Sidek, Ahmad Syahir Mohd Syafe’in as Datuk Seri Mohamed Jalani Mohd Sidek, Azim Yusof as Abdul Rahman Mohd Sidek and Henry Ong as Wong Ewee Mun.
Director Lenny Ooi said the actors were selected from over 300 candidates who auditioned in Malaysia and Singapore.
He noted that casting was particularly challenging, as the actors had to act, play badminton and resemble the original players.
The real-life Abdul Rashid and Cheah, serving as advisers to ensure authenticity, joked that the actors are taller and more handsome than the real-life players.
> A 65-year-old man in Beijing has been sentenced to four years in jail for poisoning pets and stray animals, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The incident occurred in September 2022 in Changyiyuan.
The man, identified only as Zhang, was charged with poisoning a pet dog named Papi, as well as killing eight other dogs and two cats in the neighbourhood.
Zhang claimed he did so because his granddaughter dislikes dogs and some had urinated on his bicycle.
