Politicians, NGOs, influencers attending school programme must adhere to Education Ministry's guidelines

IPOH: Any party, including politicians, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), dignitaries, and social media influencers attending programmes at schools, must comply with guidelines set by the Education Ministry.

Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh said that the District Education Office and State Education Department can consider who may attend school programmes, taking into account input from the schools themselves.

"What is important is that any activity or programme carried out in schools should benefit our children.

"At the same time, we want to ensure that all guidelines are fully adhered to,” he told reporters after handing over smartboards to 83 Tamil national type schools (SJKT) in Perak, involving allocations totalling RM984,000, here on Friday (Dec 12).

On Tuesday (Dec 9), the Kedah Education Department began investigating the invitation of a social media influencer who officiated an academic awards ceremony at a school in the state.

The department said it views the matter seriously, adding that strict action would be taken against any party found to have failed to comply with the regulations currently in force. — Bernama
