MACHANG: A sedan driver's failure to overtake another vehicle is believed to have been the cause of a fatal accident involving a Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) truck at KM 37.8 of Jalan Kota Baru-Kuala Krai, near Bukit Belah, on Thursday (Dec 11).

Machang OCPD Supt Ahmad Shafiki Hussin said the 6.35pm accident involved a three-tonne truck, carrying four MAF personnel, including the driver, and heading from Tanah Merah back to the Desa Pahlawan Camp in Kok Lanas.

"It is believed that the car driver attempted to overtake a vehicle and entered the opposite lane, leaving the MAF truck driver with no time to avoid a collision,” he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 12).

Supt Ahmad Shafiki said one MAF personnel died at the scene.

The other three personnel, who sustained minor injuries, and the car driver, who was seriously injured, were taken to the Machang Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information are urged to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Insp Fatin Nurhanis Ibrahim at 011-1454020 or the Machang Police Headquarters operations room at 09-9751222. — Bernama
