Motorcyclist crashes into elephant in Gerik

IPOH: A motorcyclist sustained minor injuries after crashing his vehicle into an elephant at KM31 of the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the 36-year-old was on his way home when he saw the pachyderm on the road on Wednesday (Dec 10) at about 9pm.

"The motorcyclist tried to avoid crashing into the animal but failed.

"He ran away as soon as he got up, while the elephant proceeded to damage the vehicle," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 11).

"The motorcyclist has received treatment at the Gerik Hospital.

"Motorists are advised to be careful while driving or riding on the highway as wildlife is known to cross it," he added.
