Two-week deadline for Sirim-free products

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Energy Commission (ECoS) has found 10 business premises selling consumer electrical equipments without Sirim-approved safety labels.

ECoS chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said they have been given two weeks to remove such items found in their premises or face confiscation and legal action as it was an offence.

“Our inspections found that these premises were selling consumer electrical equipment and gas appliances without the Sirim safety label,” he said.

He added that the premises were issued notices and instructed to withdraw all affected products from sale within 14 days.

Abdul Nasser said premises that fail to withdraw the sale of consumer electrical equipment without the Sirim safety label could be fined up to RM20,000 or imprisoned for up to two years, or both, if convicted, in accordance with Regulation 134 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024.

He said ECoS carried out enforcement operations at 10 premises and added that the action was in line with Regulation 107 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 and Regulation 117 of the Gas Supply Regulations 2023.
