Cabinet reshuffling minor but input from party chiefs open, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: A minor Cabinet reshuffle is on the cards, and it is not just about filling vacancies of ministerships, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that although the Cabinet line-up was his prerogative, he was still open to receiving input from party chiefs.

“I am thinking of the reshuffle and do not want to rush. I need to reflect, as I am still listening to views and have not yet discussed it with all party leaders.

“I am thankful and appreciate that they are sharing their views; I will decide. I have not even met with my deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, yet. I have (a list for the reshuffle),” said Anwar when asked if he already had a list of names in mind.

The Prime Minister was speaking to reporters at the launch and book-signing ceremony of his latest book, Rethinking Ourselves, at Tsutaya Bookstores in Pavilion Bukit Jalil yesterday.

Anwar thanked MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong for his suggestion that he replace Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek in the post.

“I thank MCA for its views, but it is not an issue, as we are all still part of the government,” he added.

Dr Wee had called on Anwar to replace Fadhlina in any Cabinet reshuffle, citing her dismal performance in addressing education issues and for creating “unprecedented” obstacles for Chinese primary school projects.

Anwar had previously said he would decide on the new appointments after a process of prudent consideration based on the people’s interests and the nation’s reform agenda.
