Number of flood victims in Perak, Selangor drop, Pahang unchanged


KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perak and Selangor continues to show signs of recovery with the number of victims decreasing, while the situation in Pahang remains unchanged as of Sunday morning (Dec 7).

In PERAK, the number of victims decreased to 995 people from 279 families, compared with 1,021 people (291 families) still in nine temporary relief centres across three districts on Sunday night.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that Hilir Perak continued to record the highest number, with 442 victims, followed by Bagan Datuk (335) and Manjung (218).

Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that two rivers were at danger levels: Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong, which recorded a level of 3.86m (normal around 2m), and Sungai Slim in Slim River, at 25.63m (normal 23.50m).

In SELANGOR, the number of victims in PPS also decreased this morning to 40 people from 13 families, compared to 114 victims (45 families) on Saturday night (Dec 6).

According to the Social Welfare Department Disaster Information website, only one relief centre was still operating in the Kuala Selangor district.

In PAHANG, the number of victims remains at 31 from 12 families since Saturday night (Dec 6).

Welfare Department Disaster Information reported that 24 victims from 11 families were placed at the Balairaya Kampung Ulu Sungai relief centres, Raub, while seven families are at the Kuantan Special Vocational Secondary School.

Water level readings in all major rivers monitored by the Irrigation Department in the state are below the danger level. – Bernama
