Taman Prima Saujana drowning case enters third day, SAR ops expanded to 10km


KUALA LUMPUR: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a teenage boy who is feared drowned in Taman Prima Saujana, Kajang entered its third day today with the search expanded to 10km.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the operation involved two search zones, starting from the incident location towards Jalan Mendaling to Jalan Reko, to locate the 14-year-old teenager who has not been found since being swept away by the strong current on Thursday.

"The operation is still trying to locate another victim who has not been found and today two search zones have been opened with a distance of approximately 10km," he said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 6).

He said a total of 65 officers and personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and Rescue Bencana Malaysia (RBM) were involved in the operation.

"The SAR team was also assisted by two JBPM K9 detection dogs, JBPM Skuba Team, APM Drone Unit and two Whally boats that were travelling along Sungai Langat towards Dengkil.

In the incident on Thursday, two brothers aged 12 and 14 were feared drowned after falling and being swept away by the strong current while trying to retrieve a ball in a large drain in Lorong 1/3A, Taman Prima Saujana, Kajang.

The 12-year-old victim was found at 7.47pm in Sungai Merbau, Kampung Sungai Kantan, Kajang, about two kilometres from the incident location and was confirmed dead at the Kajang Hospital at 10pm. - Bernama
