Negri royal crisis: Former clerk now proclaimed as 11th Undang Luak Sungei Ujong

PETALING JAYA: After a recent ceremony announced the appointment of 29-year-old Muhammad Faris Johari as the 11th Undang Luak Sungei Ujong, another ceremony has now been held to proclaim a former clerk as the new Undang Luak Sungei Ujong.

According to Sinar Harian, the proclamation ceremony for Abd Rahman, 70, a former clerk, took place at 2.45pm on Sunday (May 10) at Telapak Tua Kampiung Chedang in Seremban.

The proclamation was agreed upon by the Ibu Soko, Buapak and Tiang Balai Perut Waris Hulu.

It is understood that Abd Rahman, a father of six whose highest education level is the Lower Certificate of Education, is from the Biduanda Waris Klana clan, while his position within the lineage is Datuk Juan Waris Perut in Hulu Luak Sungei Ujong.

He was supposedly among those who had previously submitted his name as a candidate for the position of Datuk Klana Petra Undang Luak Sungei Ujong on Nov 13, 2004.

It was reported on May 5 that Waris Klana Hulu Muhammad Faris Johari was named as the 11th Undang of Sungei Ujong.

In a statement, Waris Nan Tua Klana Hulu Orang Kaya Datuk Laksamana Shaharumzaman Abdul Malek, Ibu Soko-Ibu Soko Klana Hulu and Waris-waris Klana Hulu said the ceremony took place at Telaga Undang on April 22.

However, the Sungei Ujong Datuk-Datuk Lembaga Adat disputed the appointment of Faris as the 11th Undang.

They claimed that his appointment, announced by the Majlis Datuk Lembaga Adat Sungei Ujong, was illegal as the council had nothing to do with Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong, the traditional administrative seat for the luak (major district).
