SEREMBAN: Waris Klana Hulu Muhammad Faris Johari has been named the 11th Undang of Sungei Ujong.
In a statement, Waris Nan Tua Klana Hulu Orang Kaya Datuk Laksamana Shaharumzaman Abdul Malek, Ibu Soko-Ibu Soko Klana Hulu and Waris-waris Klana Hulu said the ceremony took place at Telaga Undang on April 22.
They said the ceremony was carried out strictly in accordance with adat and ceremonial laws, and in the presence of Ibu Soko Klana Hilir and Waris Klana Hilir.
The ceremony was witnessed by Ibu Soko Waris Negeri, Waris Negeri, Dato' Lembaga Lingkungan, To' Buapak Lingkungan and state government officials.
"The appointment was certified by Datuk Andulika Mandalika Zainol Ariffin Ibrahim Tua Lembaga Waris di-Darat who is recognised by the state government.
"The appointment was carried out without any interference from external parties and in accordance with Article 14(1) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959," they said.
Muhammad Faris, 29, is the second child of Johari Ngah and Ibu Soko Klana Hulu Shazlina Sinda Maharaja Abd Karim.
He graduated with an accounting degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara and became a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2022.
He is an accountant at a multinational insurance and risk consulting firm.
Muhammad Faris married Sharifah Amirah Syed Ismail Ash-Shabab on April 20, 2024.
On April 20, the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang advised the luak of Sungei Ujong to accept the removal of Datuk Mubarak Dohak as the Undang of Sungei Ujong.
Mubarak was one of the four principal ruling chiefs of Negri Sembilan.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said in a statement that the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang was given 33 reasons as to why Mubarak should be removed as the Undang.
The process was carried out according to Rule 14(3) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan, Aminuddin said.
Negri Sembilan's four Undang hold influential positions in the state's Adat Perpatih system, including the authority to elect the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
Apart from the Undang of Sungei Ujong, the other three are the Undang of Jelebu, the Undang of Johol and the Undang of Rembau.
All four Undang have disputed Aminuddin's claim.
