KUALA LUMPUR: Padang Serai MP Datuk Azman Nasrudin is expected to be charged on Monday (Dec 8) in connection with an alleged corruption case involving a Kedah state-owned cattle farming joint venture project.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the lawmaker will face charges alongside another individual.
“He will be charged on Monday for corruption,” Azam said briefly when contacted.
It was reported that Azman was detained by Kedah MACC for the purpose of being charged, following the approval to prosecute.
The case centres on a state cattle feedlot joint venture project.
According to sources, the arrest followed investigations that began in February and involved an alleged sum of about RM400,000 to facilitate the approval of land use rights for a feedlot project.
An investigation paper was opened on Feb 10 after a report was lodged.
Some 15 individuals are believed to have had their statements recorded on the matter.
Azman later confirmed that he had been detained by the MACC in relation to the Kedah cattle project but questioned why his status had been changed from witness to accused.
He said he had previously visited the MACC Kedah office on March 25 as a witness to assist in the investigation into the feedlot project under Kedah Agro, but later received a sudden instruction to meet an investigating officer at the Sungai Buloh R&R (northbound).
