PUTRAJAYA: A former Felda general manager has been remanded over an alleged abuse of power in the appointment of a developer for a Kuala Lumpur project and the sale of land belonging to the statutory body.
The five-day remand order for the suspect in his 60s, with the title “Datuk’, runs until Friday.
It was issued by magistrate Ezrene Zakariah after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the application at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The magistrate also issued a three-day remand order until today against another suspect, in his 50s, who is receiving treatment at Hospital Putrajaya.
The duo are suspected of being involved in the sale of Felda-owned land to a company with interests in the appointed developer, allegedly without the knowledge of the statutory body’s board of directors and its subsidiary.
It was reported that MACC detained the two suspects around 4pm on Sunday after they appeared at the commission’s headquarters here to have their statements recorded.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
It was reported earlier that MACC had opened six investigation papers into assets allegedly purchased above their market value.
Among the assets identified were the Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments in London and the construction of Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd.
“Apart from the six papers we opened, one more has been identified as a pending case that has yet to be closed. It will also be studied and re-examined by us.
“So far, 12 people have had their statements recorded, including three Felda Investment Corporation board members,” he added.
