KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA Youth’s “From Legacy to Leadership” – 70 Years of MCA Youth Run – will return to the party’s national headquarters on Dec 21, with organisers targeting about 2,000 participants for its Kuala Lumpur leg.

MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong Yew Chuan said the run is part of the wing’s 70th anniversary celebrations, which have been held nationwide throughout the year.

“This event is more than just a run. It is a nationwide gathering to celebrate MCA Youth’s history and inspire its future,” he told a press conference at Wisma MCA on Friday (Dec 5).

Kuala Lumpur will be the 11th stop, following earlier runs in Melaka, Johor, Perlis, Kelantan, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Terengganu, Sabah, Pahang and Penang. Combined, these stages have attracted nearly 10,000 participants.

“Now the run comes home to our headquarters. Through this active and healthy lifestyle initiative, we want to engage more young people and bring them closer to us,” Chong said.

The KL event will take place on Dec 21, a Sunday, at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang, with the flag-off at 7am. Participants are encouraged to arrive early for registration and warm-up.

The 5km route will take runners past several of the city’s landmarks, including the KLCC area and Kuala Lumpur Tower, before looping back via Jalan P. Ramlee to Wisma MCA.

Chong said the Kuala Lumpur leg aims to draw about 2,000 runners and will feature two categories: the student category and the open category.

He added that there is no age limit, and everyone is welcome to join, although children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Registration is now open, and Chong encouraged the public to sign up early.

The participants may choose between a paid or free package. The upgraded RM30 package includes an official event jersey and a prize, while the free option allows runners to take part in the fun run without additional fees, though it does not include a jersey or prize.

Also present at the press conference were Youth Run organising chairman Yap Zheng Hoe, MCA Youth organisation secretary Ng See Keong, MCA Youth Wilayah vice-president Wee Boon Peng, and MCA National Youth Centre Committee member Teoh Wei Loong.
