Two killed in Miri lorry accident


MIRI: Two men were killed when a trailer lorry carrying heavy machinery lost control at the traffic lights on the Jalan Miri Bypass here.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, the accident occurred at 4.20pm on Wednesday (Dec 3).

The victims were identified as lorry driver Melintang Mamuwas, 55, and his assistant Tan Gawan, 44.

"Upon arrival at the scene, the fire brigade found the trailer’driver and assistant trapped in the cabin.

"The team then opened the driver’s side door to allow medical personnel to assess the condition of the victims,” it said in a statement, adding that both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

It added that the rescue operation required the use of a crane to move the heavy machinery that was still on the lorry's trailer. – Bernama
