Passenger nabbed for alleged bomb scare in KLIA

SEPANG: A passenger has been arrested after triggering a bomb hoax at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Tuesday (Dec 2), delaying a departing flight.

The incident unfolded at about 5.32pm, just moments before the flight was scheduled to push back. Airport officials said the suspect had allegedly made a false claim of an explosive device on board.

"Aviation security officers immediately activated emergency protocols, cordoned off the affected area and worked alongside the police and the bomb disposal unit to assess the threat.

"All passengers were kept safe throughout the operation," Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Following security checks, the flight resumed its journey at 7.19pm with the remaining passengers.

"Authorities completed a thorough sweep of the scene before declaring a stand down at 8.58pm, confirming that the threat was unfounded.

"Airport operations continued as normal, and Malaysia Airports reminded travellers that making false threats is a serious criminal offence under the law,” the statement read.
