KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat saw a tense moment on Monday (Dec 1) when an Opposition MP recited a poem on the recently-concluded Sabah Elections.
"Hajiji becomes Chief Minister again,
"Winning not even 30 seats,
"Sabah DAP is finished to the point of biting their fingers,
"My question is No. 10," Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) said when posing a question to the Defence Minister.
The poem prompted an instant reaction from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka), who said that the same dismal outcome applies to Bersatu as well.
"The same goes for Bersatu, which contested 33 seats, and its candidates lost their deposit in 30," he added.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) said the poem was uncalled for.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor, presiding over the session, stepped in and warned MPs that they could be suspended if they broke the rules of the august House.
He said MPs should not speak unless they are called to do so.
"The punishment in my hands is 10 days, and if I am not satisfied, I will bring it to the (Rights and Privileges) committee (to ask) for six months.
"This is the final warning. I will be firm because I do not want this House to become a place that does not carry out its responsibilities properly," he stressed.
