Sabah polls: Nurul Izzah congratulates candidates, accepts results

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has accepted the results of the 17th Sabah State Election, in which it secured only one seat, says party deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She said she takes full responsibility for the outcome together with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as PKR joint election directors.

"We accept the people's voice as a lesson and reminder to always be sincere in our struggle.

“The results also reflected voters’ sentiments on governance, transparency and local leadership issues, with the message being that disunity weakens political strength and erodes public trust.

“However, PKR’s history taught us that defeat has never ended our struggle. This journey has yet to end,” she said in a joint statement, pledging that PKR would continue championing the people’s interests.

She also congratulated all winning candidates, including Datuk Jamawi Ja’afar – PKR’s sole victor in the state polls – on his win in the Melalap state seat.

“Carry this trust seriously, serve with honest determination because every action you take will determine the future of the people who voted for you,” she said.

Nurul Izzah added that the journey is not only about victory, but the readiness to realise weaknesses, improve them and rise again.

She said the chance to contest in 12 seats - an increase from previous allocations - showed that confidence in the party was slowly growing in the state, even if this did not translate into electoral wins.

“It may not be a victory in numbers, but it is a victory in spirit and determination,” Nurul Izzah said, adding that support for PKR’s grassroots machinery had also strengthened during the campaign.
