PETALING JAYA: Ongoing efforts to evacuate Malaysians trapped in flood-stricken Hat Yai will continue until everyone is rescued, says Wisma Putra.
The Foreign Ministry said despite challenging conditions, coordinated rescue efforts had made steady progress, with 870 Malaysians rescued with the help of Malaysian teams and Thai authorities on Nov 25 alone.
“This follows the 340 Malaysians rescued on Nov 24, bringing the two-day total to 1,210.
“While the number of stranded Malaysians is decreasing, thousands of people, including Malaysians, are unable to leave Hat Yai due to high water levels and strong currents. Priority is given to those requiring urgent medical or welfare assistance,” it said.
“A team from the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok arrived in Hat Yai on the evening of Nov 25, to strengthen the Consulate-General’s operations on the ground,” it said.
Working alongside Malaysian NGOs and the Thai Army, the teams are delivering essential medicine, food and clean water to Malaysians in critical need. Evacuations are being carried out wherever conditions allow.
To further strengthen these efforts, 22 jet skis from volunteer firefighter teams have arrived to enhance mobility and reach more affected areas.
