Strong 6.5 magnitude quake strikes off north Sumatra, tremors felt in Malaysia


KUALA LUMPUR: A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 12.56pm on Thursday (Nov 27), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

It said the quake’s epicentre was located at 2.7° north and 95.9° east, at a depth of 57km.

"Tremors were felt around the west coast states of Peninsular Malaysia,” it said in a statement.

MetMalaysia added that the quake does not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia. - Bernama
