Thunderstorm warning issued for seven states and Labuan


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across seven states as well as Labuan, with warnings in effect until 1am on Thursday (Nov 27).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

Perak areas such as Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim are on alert for severe weather.

Pahang districts including Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Pekan and Rompin are under the warning.

Selangor areas of Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor are expected to be affected.

Negeri Sembilan districts such as Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

Melaka is also anticipated to be affected.

Johor areas including Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian are expected to experience severe weather conditions.

Sarawak divisions of Bintulu, Miri and Limbang are under the warning.

Sabah's Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and West Coast divisions (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud) are on alert.

Labuan is also expected to be affected.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
