PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says he accepts the resignation of his senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
In a statement on Wednesday (Nov 26), he said that he thanks Shamsul Iskandar for his service.
“With regard to the allegations that have arisen, I stress that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to conduct an immediate investigation without any external interference,” said Anwar.

In the post, Shamsul Iskandar said he understood that there were attempts to attack him over the issuance of a letter of support for contractors in a hospital project, which could tarnish the image of the government.
“Thus, I have decided to defend myself against such attacks. I have also tendered my resignation to the Prime Minister this morning. I thank the Prime Minister for his trust in me,” he wrote.
On Nov 18, Anwar confirmed in the Dewan Rakyat that he had reprimanded his political secretary over the letter, which was issued last year.
