Sabah polls: 61.72% voter turnout as of 11am, says EC on early voting

KOTA KINABALU: Early voting for the 17th Sabah state election has recorded a voter turnout of 61.72% or 15,076 as of 11am on Tuesday (Nov 25), said Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun. 

“This is a high percentage and I want to thank those who voted early.

“We are hoping for this percentage to continue increasing until the closure of polling centres by 5pm,” he told reporters when met at a polling station at the Tawau police station on Tuesday (Nov 25). 

According to Ramlan, he is expecting a 90% turnout at the end of the day for early voting In Sabah. 

“I hope voters will come earlier because the weather is uncertain,” he added.

Earlier, the EC said early voting recorded a voter turnout of 46.9% or 8,924 people. 

Compared to the 16th state election in 2020, there was a voter turnout of 27.48% or 5,736 voters.

Meanwhile, Ramlan said the EC received 472 complaints as of Monday (Nov 24) regarding campaign offences. 

“This includes ceramah without permits and offences involving campaign materials. We have taken note and we will take further action,” he added. 

The Sabah polls will take place this Saturday (Nov 29).
