KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have received 85 reports on minor election offences with 53 investigation papers opened as of Monday (Nov 24).

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the offences include abuse of social media and vandalism, but does not affect the campaign and election process.

He said overall, the campaign processes in all places have been running smoothly thus far, with minor issues reported.

“I am very thankful to all involved throughout this campaign thus far, for abiding by the law and giving their best cooperation,” he said after casting his vote at the Kota Kinabalu Police Station in Kepayan near here.

Jauteh, who cast his vote at around 8.50am, urged early voters to cast their votes early due to the inconsistent weather conditions.

Over 13,660 police personnel and the armed forces are expected to cast their votes in the 58 polling stations statewide, he said.

“So far the election process is running smoothly and we hope it will remain that way until the end of polling hour,” he said.

On matters of permit issuance, Jauteh said a total of 7,288 permits have been issued for the various campaign activities as of Monday.

“So far no issue or complaints on this. So all’s good,” he said, adding there were also no reports of voters with missing identification cards received.
