Forestry Dept staff injured after truck falls into ravine

IPOH: A group of 12 was injured after the truck they were in fell into a 5m-deep ravine at Jalan Gunung Batu Putih-Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh in Tapah.

Tapah OCPD Superintendent Johari Yahya said those injured during the 2.30pm incident on Sunday (Nov 23) consisted of Perak Forestry Department staff and forest guides.

"The victims were on their way back to headquarters after completing a signboard installation work at Gunung Batu Putih.

"The right tyre is believed to have slipped due to the narrow and slippery road, causing the vehicle to fall and roll down the ravine," he said in a statement on Monday.

"The victims managed to get out of the vehicle with the help of the public and Fire and Rescue Department personnel," he added.

Supt Johari said the victims have been sent to the Tapah Hospital for treatment.

He added that the case would be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The people are advised to be more careful and to plan their journey ahead, especially during the monsoon season, to minimise the risk of an accident," he added.
