IPOH: A bus driver travelling from Kajang to Kulim lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the divider separating the northbound and southbound lanes of the North-South Expressway near Tapah on Wednesday (Sept 2).
Tapah OCPD Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the accident occurred at about 12.30pm at KM328.3 of the expressway, heading northbound.
He said the bus was travelling in the right lane and was not carrying any passengers when the driver lost control and mounted the steel divider.
“The driver was unhurt but was taken to Tapah Hospital for further treatment after doctors at the emergency department found that he was under the influence of heart medication that could cause drowsiness,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 2).
Supt Abdul Malik said police checks found that the driver was an outpatient referred to the Kuala Ketil Health Clinic in Kedah for a heart-related condition.
“The bus sustained damage to its front and undercarriage and became lodged on the highway divider.
“The case has been classified under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959,” he said.
