KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker reminded MPs to observe decorum after two Perikatan Nasional MPs were heard holding a loud side discussion.
Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor singled out Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz and Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor.
They were seen conversing as the Supply Bill debate had just begun.
Ramli said their conduct breached Standing Order 41(e), which requires MPs to remain silent when another member is speaking.
“Perhaps the honourable members for Tanah Merah and Ketereh want to share their discussion with the rest of the House,” he said on Monday (Nov 24).
“I have mentioned Standing Order 41(e). If it was a minute or two, I would not mind.
But you are seated right there and I can hear you,” added Ramli.
He said that the rules and procedures in the House are clear.
“If you wish to continue your conversation, I can ask you to leave. Shall I order it,” he added.
Ramli said such behaviour was not something amusing, adding mutual respect in the chamber is essential.
“If we cannot respect each other here when proceedings are underway, what do we expect outside?” he said.
Following the reprimand, Ramli reminded all MPs to observe Standing Order 41 on conduct during sittings.
“I hope when I am presiding, Standing Order 41 is adhered to. I can tolerate some things, but it is better to respect other honourable members,” he added.
